On Saturday, cyclists from all over the Shore and points beyond converged at Berlin’s Burley Oak Brewery for OVC’s biggest ride of the year. Mother Nature served up a perfect day and the cycling community responded. A magnificent peloton of over 80 riders rolled smoothly through 54 miles of scenic Worcester County back roads. Luckily, the floodwaters had receded and the group’s trip to Public Landing was clear and unimpeded. Kudos to all the OVC riders who marshaled the front and rear, allowing the pack to safely cruise through intersections and maintain cohesion. Thanks also to Ocean City’s Continental Cycles who again provided SAG support for our crew.

Once at Public Landing, the group socialized and refueled on munchies and drinks courtesy of Maria and her daughters -- thanks, Ladies! Before long though, the allure of fresh beer motivated everyone to get moving back to Berlin. On the outskirts of town, a final surge to the railroad tracks got the blood pumping, with Mark and Evan duking it out for the rainbow jersey. Unfortunately, a touch of wheels did cause a tumble, but our understanding is that the rider escaped without serious injury. Thank you to everyone who helped attend to the rider.

Back at Burley, Jim and Sally Vuncannon went above and beyond the call of duty with post-ride accommodations. The duo grilled up complimentary hot dogs and had the OVC tent and swag department fully deployed -- great work! Before long, our black and orange event shirts were on full display. The club also chipped in for pizzas that were gobbled up in a blink.

Thanks to Burley Oak for hosting the Shore’s largest and best group ride! Thanks to Culver & Pierson for its continued support of the club and for providing pre-ride porta-potties. Finally, thanks to all the riders and everyone who contributed to the ride’s success!
